A letter came across my desk this week that made me thankful for the generosity of God and the people at Edgemont UMC. It reads, in part, “Thank you so much for help with my electric bill. I couldn’t have made it that month without you all. And I can’t make it without your prayers. Again, thanks so much. [signed…]”
Your gifts to the Good Neighbor Fund have helped people 15 16 17 18 times in 2009. Most often, the amount needed is not large, but your sharing with others makes a very large difference in the life of a family or individual. We do this in order to model God’s generosity, for we are made in God’s image, and our God is very generous; giving us life itself, everything we see or touch, not to mention giving his son as a sacrifice to redeem the world. A theologian might say that this tangible help is an example of the incarnation (making real, embodiment) of Jesus Christ. If you would like to make a gift above-and-beyond your tithe, mark your check “Good Neighbor,” or you may leave an offering on the communion rail.
Do you have ideas about how we might do even more of this kind of "embodiment?" May we grow in learning to bless God as generously as God has blessed us.
Pastor Eric
