Recently Brian Kvasnica blessed us at Edgemont preaching both services. As he shared the word, Brian’s enthusiasm and deep knowledge of scripture brought Jesus’ context to life for us, and challenged us to live faithfully in our own context. During the Sunday school hour he shared with us about our upcoming trip to Israel.
On a personal level, I really enjoyed visiting with him again after he led my I.C.E. group in Israel two years ago. Our time in the Holy Land made a real difference in my faith and in my enjoyment of scripture, largely due to the passion and insight Brian has for the land, language and literature of the Bible. Check out the pictures on the left side of my blog (or here).
Brian has been teaching in the Land of the Bible since 1998. He has a B.A. from Houghton College (NY) and an M.A. from Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Early Christianity and Judaism. He is a Ph.D. student at Hebrew University, works part-time with the Home for Bible Translators and in the summer teaches Hebrew with the Biblical Language Center. Brian is an associate member of the Jerusalem School for Synoptic Research. He has lead dozens of Biblical study-tour groups throughout Israel, Jordan, Greece, and Turkey.
The itinerary [here] for our Holy Land trip February 8-18 of 2010 is very exciting. Our time is focused around Galilee and Jerusalem, with a day to see the Dead Sea, Qumran and Masada. Highlights include Bethlehem, Nazareth, the Mount of Beatitudes, and the Western (Wailing) Wall. We may still make minor adjustments, but this very close to our final schedule.
The economy and fluctuations in the value of the dollar has impacted our trip cost, which is higher than we initially anticipated at $3499. Yet, it is comparable to other trips of this sort. The price includes a great many items that some other tour companies call “add-ons,” but are really required. All airline tickets, fares, entrance fees, tips (unless you tip your lunch server), taxes, in-country transportation, hotels, breakfasts and dinners are covered. It does not include trip insurance (though we have some ideas about how to get really good deal on this), and we will be responsible for our lunches each day.
The cutoff for registration is November 30th, when the first payment is due. This is an Edgemont trip, but please feel free to invite others to come along. Share the flier with friends and family… anybody with whom you would like to travel. We must have 16 for the trip to make.I can’t wait for you to experience this place that enriched my own faith so deeply. Don’t hesitate to email or call (256.766.3606) with questions.
Blessings!
