Last night as I chased Larry, David and the rest of the Shoals Cycling Club around the Llama Loop I rolled over 3,000 miles on my odometer for the year. I'm mildly stoked about that, and maybe just a little bit proud.
Last year (2008) was the first time to ride seriously as my exercise regimen. First on my mountain bike, and then Mike generously let me borrow his nice Trek for the summer! It was a great season, capped off by completing the Clarksville Sunrise Metric Century. (I wrote about that here.) Having proven to myself that it wasn't just a passing interest, I invested in a nice road bike at the end of January and have been riding regularly since then. Earlier this summer I enjoyed riding the Dogwood 100 and the Tour de Wayne, both metric centuries.
My goal this year is to complete a full century, 100 miles instead of the 62 mile metric (100 kilometers). Brad has promised to ride the All-You-Can-Eat-100 with me later this month in Huntsville. And Chuck and Alan are thinking about it. Perhaps I'll hit 4,000 by the end of the year. Anyone want to take bets on that? Do you think I'll make it or not? It will be fun trying.
