I was so proud of Edgemont this past Sunday. We kicked off our "Gospel According to U2" sermon series really well. The band did their usual terrific job leading us throughout the service. Then they really topped themselves, supported by the addition of Lee Taylor (lead singer at the Wednesday evening youth
worship service) and our chancel choir. They really hit a home run on U2's I Still Haven't Found
What I'm Looking For. The choir will assist again on the final week for Pride (In the Name of Love). In the intervening weeks, for the more traditional 11:15 service, we'll do an acoustic version of the U2 songs, while still using the full band at the 9am service.
HUGE thanks go out to everyone who helped pull this all together: Eddie, Ryan, Bryan, Lee, Scott, the chancel choir & the band. You guys are really amazing.
Here's the schedule for the songs we'll be doing:
- 8/24 I Still Haven’t Found What I’m looking For | John 3:16-17 & Mat 16:24
- 8/31 Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of | Rom 7:19-25
- 9/07 All Because of You | Eph 2:1-10, 19-22
- 9/14 Yahweh | Luke 24:1-3 & Mat 5:13-16
- 9/21 Pride (In the Name of Love) | Isaiah 53 (with the choir!)
I was proud of the band, Lee and the choir for doing an outstanding job. I was proud of the church, which as a whole, embraced a (slightly) radical idea to reach out in a new way. I was proud to get to hear the music of one of my favorite bands played in church. (You might be wondering if I have pride issues!!! ;-) But most of all I am proud that we are looking for signs of God's activity in the world around us. We are trying to be faithful witnesses to the myriad ways God expresses grace to all people, and trying to welcome them into the love of Christ. Really, it's all pride in the name of God's love.
How about some .mp3 love to tide you over 'til you get to hear our band do these songs?
